So engaging! And a thoroughly satisfying read. Acker is a talented writer the book has great pacing and I couldn't put it down. The scientific aspects are fascinating-- detailed and credible and still easy to grasp. He is also very adept at character development. I agree with the other reviewer who said this would make a great movie.
A very riveting and entertaining read. Acker accurately captures the nuances of the hospital and pediatric residency, but also transforms the residency experience into a suspenseful one with anecdotes of the vibrant and vindictive personalities, the fun plot twists, and the science fiction nature of the medical plot. I finished the book within 3 days.
This is a terrific book. It weaves a tapestry of mystery, danger, and cutting edge medical science, along with musings about life as a young doctor, into a drama that just builds and builds. Dr. Acker has constructed a plot that is sufficiently factually based to be plausible and imaginative enough to keep you guessing. The main characters grow on you and by the time the book ends you just wish for more. Highly recommended.
I loved this book! It has wonderful character development, and exciting, fascinating twists. The author is an extremely
talented wordsmith, and also a physician, so not only are the medical aspects accurate, they are so well and entertainingly presented and woven into the storyline that it keeps the attention of even the most medically disinclined. An amusing and exciting thriller, with a truly unexpected ending. Perfect book to curl up with in front of the fireplace on these cold winter nights!
A very strong first effort from Dr. Acker. His characters are very well developed. Medicine and/or medical mysteries are not my thing but I fould the book very interesting and readable. While I had some of the mystery solved before the end of the book, Dr. Acker had some interesting twists I wasn't expecting. I would highly recommend this book.
Could not put this book down, especially towards the end. I love the ending. I have a few questions though, and I will ask Dr. Acker the next time I see him!! Great book.
Couldn't put it down! I really did not know what to expect by the title as this isn't what I would think of as my usual genre.
One reason that this book is a page turner is that it has a very fresh plot (not like so many other reads I have happened upon lately), and the fact the the writer is a real life Pediatrician, which no doubt accounts for the authentic feel to the story as it unfolds.
Like Michael Crichton, Peter Acker marries science with mystery, creating a thriller with an up to date premise.
As an aside there is a nice size free sample for this book, which is what lead me to purchase it.
