This book was just a nice little book about not much happening. Written back in the 30's, it shows a way of life that is a little fantastic, and foreign.My main issue is the heroine suddenly waltzes off with a character we're only introduced to halfway through the book. We never get to know him, or what she's thinking about him (although you hear all her other thoughts on other people).
A little disappointing.

Lavinia Brandon, a beautiful widow with grown children, tries her hand at matchmaking in this delightful novel. Lavinia's young cousin, Hilary, falls victim to her charm, their Aunt Sissie tries to cause some exciterment over her will, and the village fête enlivens the residents. Old friends from previous Barsetshire novels play supporting roles, while the new characters are soon as dear as the old. As with all of Thirkell's novels, the Brandons (published in 1939) is amusing--often read-out-loud funny-- and charming, a pure pleasure to read.
Rediscover a fun author!
The Brandons is my favorite of Angela Thirkell and one of my all time favorite between-the-wars books. It is light hearted, nostalgic and hilariously funny. When cares threaten to overwhelm me, I re-read The Brandons and somehow I always feel restored to life.
